Ecological Excursions and Routes:
The ecological routes of the south western region are located in the Enriquillo Sub-region, made up of the provinces of Barahona, Bahoruco, Independencia and Pedernales. All buried in the deep south, sharing very similar aspects, but each with its own customs alive, contributing to the cultural wealth of the generous natural resources, marine and mountainous areas of the region; including bays, beaches, islands, lagoons and two important mountain chains.
The name of the Sub-region is in honor of the first hero born in the New World: the Chief, Guarocuya ("cacique"), baptized Enriquillo by the Spaniards.
